DATE:  October 31, 2017  - November 1, 2017
TIME:  9:00 AM  - 4:00 PM
DESCRIPTION:  This two-day workshop provides an overview of HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) services in Wisconsin. This training builds upon communication skills that are essential for effective HIV counseling in a variety of settings, including community-based organizations, local public health departments and other venues. Participants will learn the target audiences and objectives of the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV CTR Program, quality assurance requirements for HIV testing laid out in the state HIV CTR protocol, and will have an opportunity to be trained on using the Determine HIV-1/2 Antigen/Antibody combo rapid test. The latest scientific advances in HIV treatment and prevention that can be provided to clients will be discussed as well. The course is designed to build upon skills from previous workshops to support providers to develop test decision counseling skills, giving test results, and linking consumers to community resources.

Objectives:
  • Describe, demonstrate, and practice fundamental communication concepts and skills related to HIV prevention and risk reduction for clients seeking HIV testing and prevention services.
  • Examine how HIV treatment and prevention advances have affected individuals and the HIV epidemic, and learn resources for accessing HIV prevention and treatment services.
  • Identify and explain requirements for HIV testing, specifically working with the Determine rapid HIV test, as well as learning testing options, limitations, the meaning of test results, and recommendations for additional testing.
Audience:
Staff and Managers of agencies funded by the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program or permission of instructor.
