This online course provides an introduction to HIV for practitioners beginning to work in the field of HIV services. The course has been developed for HIV service providers in Wisconsin who are providing prevention and care services, although most of the information will be relevant for individuals outside the state, too. The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of HIV: key information about the virus, disease progression, transmission, prevention, care, and treatment.
Objectives:
• Describe key characteristics of the virus; including how the virus progresses and the modes of transmission
• Explain HIV testing and testing algorithms
• Describe the HIV prevention and care services available in Wisconsin
• Identify agencies and organizations providing prevention and care services
• Identify populations disproportionately affected by HIV
Audience:
The target audience is staff and managers of agencies funded by the Wisconsin HIV Program. It is also open to anyone interested in learning about HIV.
