DESCRIPTION: |
This two day workshop provides participants with an overview of HIV counseling, testing, and referral (CTR) services in Wisconsin. Participants will expand upon and practice communication skills essential for having effective and efficient change conversations related to HIV risk behavior with clients using the evidence-based practice of motivational interviewing. Participants will learn the focus audiences and objectives of the Wisconsin HIV CTR program and quality assurance requirements of workers providing rapid HIV testing. A combination of activities will give participants opportunities to build their knowledge of HIV statutes, sexual health, safer sex practices, biomedical interventions to prevent HIV, and delivering HIV test results. Participants will also learn how to effectively administer the Determine HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab combo rapid test.
Objectives:
• Practice using motivational interviewing in the context of having change conversations regarding HIV risk behavior with clients seeking HIV prevention and treatment services.
• Demonstrate required skills for HIV testing, specifically working with the Determine HIV-1/2 Ag/Ab combo rapid test.
• Enhance knowledge of HIV-related statutes, surveillance data, sexual health, and risk reduction practices.
• Practice pre-test decision making conversations and delivering HIV test results.
Audience: This training is required for prevention workers and HIV Partner Services (PS) providers. Staff and Managers of agencies funded by the Wisconsin HIV Program or those receiving permission from the instructor may also attend.
We value inclusion and access for all participants and are pleased to provide reasonable accommodations for full participation in this event. Please contact Tina Smith at tina.smith@wisc.edu. Requests are confidential.
